Emsella Chair
A non-invasive treatment for bladder leaks, a weaker pelvic floor and intimate health. You stay fully clothed, sit for about 30 minutes, and go straight back to your day.
Course of 6 treatments: $1,500, or $750 for healthcare card holders and pensioners. Available at our Ascot Vale clinic, 120 Maribyrnong Rd.

What is Emsella?
Emsella is a treatment chair that uses focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM technology) to stimulate the muscles of your pelvic floor. During a session it causes thousands of strong pelvic floor muscle contractions while you sit, fully clothed.
It is designed to strengthen the pelvic floor to treat urinary incontinence in women and men (including after prostate surgery), pelvic floor weakness after childbirth, and female sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction.
Who it can help
- Women with bladder leaks when they cough, laugh, sneeze or exercise
- Women whose pelvic floor has weakened after having a baby
- Women with bladder leaks through perimenopause and menopause
- Men with bladder leaks after prostate surgery, with their specialist’s OK
- Women and men looking for support with sexual function linked to the pelvic floor
Bladder leaks are common and nothing to be embarrassed about. If your symptoms are new or getting worse, see your GP first to rule out other causes.

Pelvic floor and intimate health
Your pelvic floor muscles play a part in sexual function for both women and men. In Australia, Emsella’s intended uses include female sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction, as well as bladder leaks.
Research in this area is still limited, and results vary from person to person. We’ll talk it through privately at your consultation.
Erection problems can sometimes be an early sign of other health issues, such as heart disease, so it’s worth seeing your GP as well.
What to expect
- Consultation. We go through your health history and check Emsella is right for you.
- Treatment. You sit on the chair, fully clothed, for about 30 minutes. Most people feel tingling and strong muscle contractions. We adjust the intensity to suit you.
- Your course. Six treatments: two a week for three weeks.
- Afterwards. No downtime, so you can go straight back to your day. Results build over the following weeks, and your practitioner may suggest top-up sessions later. Individual results vary.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to undress?
No. You stay fully clothed. Wear comfortable clothes without metal (zips, belts or underwire), and leave your phone and watch outside the room.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe tingling and strong muscle contractions rather than pain. We adjust the intensity to suit you.
How many treatments will I need?
A course is six treatments, two a week for three weeks.
Can men have Emsella?
Yes, including for bladder leaks after prostate surgery and for erectile dysfunction. Check with your specialist or GP first.
Can Emsella help with sexual function?
Emsella’s intended uses in Australia include female sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction. Research is still limited and results vary, so we’ll talk through whether it’s likely to suit you at your consultation.
Can I have it after having a baby?
Yes, once you’ve had your postnatal check and your doctor says you’re ready. It isn’t suitable during pregnancy, and if you’re breastfeeding, talk to us first.
