What are the Different types of Ingredients in Chemical Peels?

Low level lactic peels are great as an introductory to chemical peels for first time users, as well as clients with sensitive skin. Lactic peel is derived from a milk product such as buttermilk, sour cream or yogurt. It is one of the gentlest and most hydrating forms of chemical peels available. The human body naturally contains lactic acid in its cells which is why it is safer that other acids. Penetration to the skin is slower due to the fact that this acid is one of the largest molecules. Due to advances in peel technology, we now have much stronger forms of lactic peels to advance to, it is thus Lactic peels have become the most sourced of all chemical peels, which have shifted away from the old fashioned Glycolic peels which could leave your skin dry with prolonged use.

Salicylic peels are mainly used for oily, congested and acne skins. They are also great for those with blackheads. Salicylic peel is derived from Willow bark, and is unbeatable in treatment in treating acne. Salicylic peels penetrates deep into the pores to thoroughly clean out oily sebaceous glands. It helps to degrease the skin and balance out oil production as it neutralizes the bacteria, therefore reducing inflammation and further breakouts.. Please note salicylic peels are unsuitable for pregnant and lactating women.

Glycolic peels are derived from Sugarcane, and is highly effective as an intense exfoliating treatment as it has the smallest molecule, great for deep penetration. Glycolic peels are used to treat mild sun damage, pigmentation and loss of elasticity; as well as skin texture and acne. Glycolic peels

Vitamin A peels (a.k.a. Retinol peels) are more advanced medical strength chemical peels. Retinol peels are used for the treatment of aging concerns, and pigmentation to exfoliate thickened sun damaged cells. It is effective against fine lines and wrinkles; beneficial for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation as it stimulates collagen and elastin; exfoliates pigmentation for melasma; controls break outs; and can heal stretch marks on the body. Clients need to be prepped with vitamin A serum in their daily beauty regimen to build up tolerance and ensure minimal irritation. Lactic, Salicylic and Glycolic acid peels are the most used chemical peels, however there are other chemical peels available that can be added into our chemical peel treatments, such as; Malic acid peel that is derived from apples – this enhanced our [NMF] Natural Moisturising Factor found in our skin; Tartaric Acid derived from grapes – assists with the skin’ barrier repair; and Citric Acid that is derived from citrus fruits works to assist as a pigment blocker. Peels can make your skin slightly more sensitive to the sun, so ensure you wear good sun block after having peels and give your skin a little more TLC after such treatments. Costs
